Employers

The DES employment service is completely free of charge for employers. We work closely with employers to ensure we understand their employment needs and the key aspects of any placement.

DES provides a free training and support service for Jobseekers placed with an employer. This means that DES will:

• Assist the employer to train their new staff member in their duties and to meet the productivity and workplace expectations of the employer;

• Provide ongoing support to the jobseeker and employer to help the Jobseeker to fit into the work environment, overcome any difficulties and achieve a long term employment outcome; and

• Training and support will be provided for as long as the Employer, Employee and DES deems is necessary to deliver successful and sustainable employment

DES guarantees the service it delivers 100% - and we pride ourselves on our professional approach and skills and on the quality assured system we operate.  If at any time the employer is dissatisfied with the delivery of the DES service or any other issues they are encouraged to contact DES who will make every effort to resolve any issues.

Consultants will generally remain on the jobsite with the Jobseeker for the duration of the Workplace Training and Assessment to:

• Assist the training of the Jobseeker to meet the productivity expectations of the employer;
• Undertake an assessment of the needs, skills and suitability of the Jobseeker to the position;
• Identify any Workplace Modifications that may provide a benefit to the Jobseeker and enable them to be more  productive in the workplace;
• Identify any employer incentives that the placement may qualify for; and
• Most importantly to support both the Jobseeker and Employer through the program and facilitate the development of effective employer, employee and/or co-worker relationships.

Workplace Health and Safety and Insurance During an un-paid Workplace Training and Assessment (Work Experience) process DES will organise appropriate insurance coverage for the participant and the supporting DES consultant at absolutely no cost to the employer. NB. Once an Jobseeker is hired by the employer, the employer is then responsible for Work Cover.  

DES are experts in workplace flexibility and diversity and the employment of people with a disability. In these days of labour and skills shortages DES can offer advice to employers on how to retain its valuable employees through the provision of best practice approaches to employment. DES endeavours to provide the best match between the skills, abilities and aspirations of Jobseekers with the needs and requirements of Employers.

At DES we understand the cost to employers of staff turnover and recruitment and we are always looking for the best person for the job knowing that the right job match means longer and more sustainable employment. That’s good news for the employer.

DES can offer employers the opportunity to assess the suitability of an applicant through the DES Workplace Training and Assessment program and/or the Work Experience Program (subject to qualification). This provides the employer an opportunity to determine if the jobseeker will be able to:

• Undertake the duties required at a productive level;
• Fit into the workplace environment;and
• Interact effectively with co-workers and/ or customers.
• identify the Jobseeker's skills, including reliability, responsibility, safety and flexibility; and
• Overcome any perceptions your team may have that relate to disability or people with disability

Work Cover and Public Liability insurance in such programs is covered through the DES organisation.

This process may also be utilized by DES to assess the capacities, skills and needs of the Jobseeker and the workplace, and determine qualification to possible employer incentives.

If an employee supported by the DES program has their duties altered after DES support has been withdrawn, DES can be called upon to reinstitute this support to assist the worker to learn the new job skills required.
